The andro/gyne attraction scale is an alternative to the Kinsey Scale, where instead the spectrum of attraction is described in terms of attraction to masculinity and femininity, rather than heterosexuality and homosexuality, regardless of an individual’s, or other people’s, biological sex or gender identity.
On the one end of the scale is androsexuality, which is an attraction to masculinity, masculine expression, and/or men; on the other end of the scale is gynesexuality, which is an attraction to femininity, feminine expression and/or women. As with the Kinsey Scale, bisexuality encompasses the inbetween of both ends: that is, in the andro-gyne attraction scale, bisexuality describes individuals that are both androsexual and gynesexual.
The romantic equivalents are androromantic, gyneromantic and biromantic respectively.
Unlike the Kinsey Scale, the andro-gyne attraction scale is not reliant on a person’s gender or sex assigned at birth, whereas heterosexuality and homosexuality does. As such, it finds favour amongst those who do not factor in sex assigned at birth in their attractions, as well as those with nonbinary identities.
